Pizza lovers in Solon have a new spot to try. Boom’s Pizza opened its doors at 6130 Kruse Drive on Oct. 22. The response was strong from the start, with 88 pizzas sold on opening night. Founder Ben Bebenroth said that happened with no permanent sign out front and just a simple social media post to spread the word. Where to Find It The new shop sits in the Kruse Drive plaza between Mitchell’s Ice Cream and Panera Bread. It took over the space once home to Mega Barre Solon, a fitness studio. Residents should plan to take their pies home. Solon is the first Boom’s location designed strictly for carryout and delivery. There is no dining room and no liquor license. What’s on the Menu Solon customers get the same lineup served at the other Boom’s shops. That includes pizza, salads, appetizers and beverages. Vegan options are available, and the kitchen uses locally sourced ingredients. Speed is a focus here. The Solon kitchen has double the oven capacity of earlier locations. That extra space is meant to shorten the wait for a hot pie. Hours: Sunday through Thursday: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. A Good Fit for Solon’s Workforce Bebenroth chose Solon with more than dinner in mind. The city has a large daytime workforce, along with well-regarded schools. He sees both as a great match for catering orders. Office lunches, school events and team gatherings could all benefit. The Story Behind Boom’s Boom’s Pizza began with two familiar names in Cleveland dining. Chef Ben Bebenroth and culinary partner Jonathan Bennett run the business together. Bebenroth was the chef behind Spice Kitchen & Bar, which closed in 2020. Their pizza started as a pandemic experiment. The pair held Friday pizza pop-ups through Keep the Change Kitchen Collective, a virtual food hall run by Spice Hospitality Group. Those weekly bakes helped them perfect the recipe. The name honors Bebenroth’s grandfather, Carl, whose nickname was “Boom.” How Boom’s Makes Its Pizza The style lands somewhere between New York and Neapolitan. Signature pies are 14 inches across, and diners can also build their own. A sourdough crust is the foundation. In a twist, the tomato sauce goes on top of the cheese rather than below it. The City of Solon highlighted Boom’s in its recent Solon Business Spotlight. The city praised the founder as an award-winning chef and pointed to the shop’s carefully engineered dough. A Growing Northeast Ohio Brand Solon is one of several Boom’s locations around Greater Cleveland. The original shop opened on Detroit Avenue in Lakewood in January 2023. A larger restaurant followed at Van Aken District in Shaker Heights in 2024. This past June, Boom’s added a slice counter inside the Van Aken Market Hall. More is on the way. A pizzeria at Avon Commons Shopping Center is expected in the coming months and will have a small dining room. Bebenroth has long aimed for five Northeast Ohio locations in five years before heading to Columbus. Menus and online ordering are available at boomspizza.com.
