Solon Police Blotter: Concealed Weapon, OVI Crash and Animal Cruelty Case Among Recent Arrests

Concealed Weapon Found During Traffic Stop On Cochran Road An officer stopped a black Honda HRV near the intersection of Cochran Road and Solon Road on July 14 for a window tint violation. During the stop, the officer spotted a partially smoked marijuana blunt in the ashtray. The driver denied having any guns in the vehicle, but a search turned up a loaded semiautomatic pistol. The weapon was seized and the driver, a 22 year old woman from Cleveland, was arrested and taken to Solon Jail. She faces charges of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, a window tint violation and marijuana prohibition for smoking while driving. The vehicle was towed. Domestic Violence Complaint Leads To Arrest On SOM Center Road Officers responded to the 5200 block of SOM Center Road on July 15 after a woman reported that her husband pushed her during an argument, causing her to fall and hit her head. The husband gave a different account of the incident but admitted the two had been arguing. He was arrested and charged with domestic violence. He is a 72 year old Solon man. The victim, a 71 year old Solon woman, refused medical treatment at the scene. Crash On Liberty Road Results In OVI Arrest A crash call brought officers to Liberty Road near Spicebush Lane on July 15, where they found that a black Lincoln SUV had crossed left of center, left the roadway and struck a fence and a tree. The driver showed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, an unsteady gait and a strong odor of alcohol. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested. At the jail, he refused a breath test, triggering an automatic license suspension. Investigators say the 44 year old Solon man was charged with OVI and failure to control. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Traffic Stop On Aurora Road Turns Up Adderall And Marijuana Officers stopped a maroon Kia in the 28200 block of Aurora Road on July 17 for a window tint violation and noticed the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the car. The driver first denied having drugs but then admitted to having marijuana. A search turned up a pill bottle with suspected marijuana, a suspected Adderall pill without a prescription, a separate bag of marijuana and a grinder. The 45 year old Bedford Heights woman was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, drug possession and drug paraphernalia. Her car was towed. Needle And Suspected Crack Cocaine Found In Walgreens Lot Stop A window tint stop turned into a drug investigation on July 19 when officers pulled over a GMC pickup truck as it entered a retail parking lot in the 6200 block of SOM Center Road. Both occupants told officers there was marijuana and a needle in the vehicle. A search recovered a used hypodermic needle, two burnt marijuana joints hidden under the dashboard, and suspected crack pipes and a white substance believed to be crack cocaine found on the driver. Both were arrested. The driver, a 57 year old woman from West Farmington, was charged with drug paraphernalia. Her passenger, a 59 year old man from North Randall, was charged with possessing drug abuse instruments. Additional charges may follow once the white substance is tested at a lab. The truck was towed. Neglected Dog Found Caged On Glenallen Avenue Deck An anonymous caller told dispatch that a dog had been crying for days in a backyard in the 6400 block of Glenallen Avenue on July 20. An animal control officer responded but could not find anyone home and called police for backup. An officer saw a young Cane Corso confined in a closed cage on the deck with no shelter and feces inside the crate. A resident spoke with the officer through a video doorbell before someone arrived about fifteen minutes later, claiming a friend had only just left the dog there. A 33 year old woman from Tampa, Florida, was cited for cruelty to animals. Animal control plans to follow up after learning there are additional dogs inside the home. Woman Refuses To Identify Herself During Bainbridge Road Stop An officer saw a red BMW stopped past the stop bar at a red light on Bainbridge Road near Harper Road on July 20. The car then crossed the center line while turning south onto Harper Road, prompting a stop. The driver refused to identify herself even after being warned she would be arrested for the refusal. Officers used a computer database to determine her identity, since she was not the registered owner of the car. She was found to have an outstanding warrant from Beachwood police for a theft offense, though that department asked officers to only advise and release her on that charge. The 61 year old Cleveland woman was arrested and charged with failure to comply with a law enforcement officer, a traffic control device violation, failure to display a license and a left of center violation. The car was towed.
