Solon Police Blotter: Firearm Arrest, Hit Skip Crash and Break In

Solon Police released details on six cases from July 23 through July 27. Incidents included a rental car reported stolen, a firearm arrest tied to an outstanding warrant, a hit skip crash on US 422, damaged mailboxes on Rollingbrook Trail, a break in at a management office on Aurora Road and an assault at King Nut. Rental Car Reported Stolen Enterprise Car Rental staff told officers on July 23 that a customer had not returned a rented black Nissan Altima. The vehicle was rented in May and was due back in June. The customer did not respond to a demand letter from the company. Officers entered the car into a police database as stolen. Beachwood Police later found the unoccupied vehicle on a residential street and had it towed back to Solon for return to Enterprise. A warrant was issued for a 52 year old man for unauthorized use of a vehicle, a felony of the fifth degree. Firearm Arrest Follows Traffic Stop An officer ran the plate on a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee on Cochran Road on July 24 and found the registered owner had an active felony theft warrant out of Willoughby. The driver parked at Sheetz and walked inside. Officers matched his BMV photo and detained him at the register. When he asked for his phone, officers located it along with a loaded semiautomatic pistol. Because of the active warrant, he was not permitted to carry a firearm. A 26 year old Euclid man was arrested and charged with improper handling of a firearm, a felony of the fourth degree, and taken to Solon Jail. The vehicle was towed. Hit Skip Crash Closes Part of US 422 Officers responded to US 422 eastbound near Harper Road early on July 25 for a crash involving a Nissan Maxima and a Honda Accord. The Nissan driver, a 24 year old Solon man, told officers the other driver fled north on foot near a nearby building. Officers could not locate him at the scene but found evidence inside the abandoned car that helped identify him. A warrant followed. On July 27, the suspect appeared in Bedford Court on an unrelated matter and was arrested there by Solon officers. A 32 year old Solon man was charged with hit skip, a first degree misdemeanor, and assured clear distance ahead, a minor misdemeanor. No injuries were reported. Mailboxes Damaged on Rollingbrook Trail A homeowner association president reported two damaged mailboxes on Rollingbrook Trail on the morning of July 26. Officers found the remains of both mailboxes and determined fireworks had likely caused the damage. A nearby resident reported hearing a loud noise the previous night between 10 and 11 pm. Solon Fire also responded but found no fire emergency. There are no suspects at this time. Copper Pipe Stolen in Overnight Break In Officers responded to a property management office on Aurora Road on July 26 after a break in was discovered. A window on the side of the building had been broken. Investigators believe the suspect entered the office and removed copper piping from the ceiling, which caused water to flow freely inside. The amount of copper taken was not listed in the report. The business owner, a 55 year old Bedford man, said everything was in order the previous evening. Detectives are investigating. Coworkers Involved in Workplace Assault An argument between two coworkers led to an assault report at King Nut on July 27. A 34 year old woman told officers she had been slapped by a male coworker. The man smelled of alcohol and was bleeding from his pinky finger. He told officers the woman pushed him first. After speaking with a witness, officers arrested the man. A 60 year old Euclid man was charged with assault, a first degree misdemeanor, and taken to Solon Jail.
