Solon police released a summary of notable calls from the past week, ranging from a domestic violence arrest to an armed robbery that ended in a high speed chase on Interstate 480. The report covers incidents from Aug. 19 through Aug. 24 and is not a complete list of all police activity during that time. Marijuana, Suspected Pills Found During Traffic Stop An officer stopped a black Ford SUV near Aurora Road and Flanders Drive on Aug. 19 after noticing it did not have a visible license plate. When the officer approached, he saw a temporary tag in the window and spotted suspected marijuana in plain view inside the center console. The driver, a 29 year old man from Stow, and a passenger, a 28 year old woman from Mentor, were asked to step out for a search. Officers found additional marijuana and a glass jar containing eight suspected Dilaudid pills, a Schedule II prescription narcotic. The driver said he had a prescription for the pills, so officers seized them for further investigation. Both people were released without charges. The driver received a warning for an improper display of plates and was cited for marijuana prohibition. Prosecutors are considering a felony drug possession charge. Warrant Arrest Follows Window Tint Stop An officer stopped a red Jeep Grand Cherokee on Cochran Road at Aurora Road on Aug. 20 for a suspected window tint violation. A records check showed the driver had an active warrant from Cleveland police for intimidation. The 27 year old Cleveland man was arrested and taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail. He was also cited locally for driving under suspension and a window tint violation before being turned over to Cleveland police. His car was towed from the scene. Solon Woman Reports Jewelry Missing After Hospital Stay A 75 year old Solon woman told police on Aug. 20 that she noticed jewelry missing from her bedroom on Longview Drive. She said she last remembered seeing the items in January, before a hospital stay. The missing items include an engagement ring, a gold necklace, a ruby and gold bracelet and other assorted rings and necklaces. She estimated the total value at about $4,000. Detectives are investigating. Man Charged With Domestic Violence After Twinsburg Hospital Visit Officers were called to a Glenallen Avenue home on Aug. 20 after a woman reported someone was trying to get inside. When they arrived, officers found a house cleaner who said the homeowner had just left for the hospital with another woman. The cleaner said she believed that woman had been assaulted by her husband, who did not live at the home. She called police because she thought the man had returned. Officers went to a Twinsburg emergency room and located the alleged victim, a 34 year old Solon woman. She told police her husband struck her several times during an argument. Officers found the man about an hour later pulling into the driveway of his Cannon Road home in a black Dodge Durango. The 34 year old man was arrested, taken to the Solon jail and charged with domestic violence. Phone Scam Costs Solon Resident $24,000 A 59 year old Solon man told police on Aug. 21 that he received a call from someone claiming to be a sheriff's deputy using the name Robert Askew. The caller said the resident missed jury duty at federal court and now had a warrant out for his arrest. The call was transferred to a person identifying himself as a supervisor named Derik Pearson, who said he could clear the warrant if the resident paid bonds. The caller stayed on the line while the resident withdrew cash from a local bank, telling the teller the money was for a home improvement project. The resident then went to a Coinhub ATM inside a gas station on Rockside Road and made three cryptocurrency deposits into a digital wallet controlled by the scammers. He lost a total of $24,000. Detectives are investigating. Twinsburg Woman Charged With OVI After Slow Speed Chase A caller reported a dark colored SUV stopped at a green light near SOM Center Road and Pettibone Road on Aug. 22, saying the driver appeared to be asleep. An officer found the Audi SUV traveling east on Pettibone Road at only 2 to 4 mph and tried to stop it with lights and sirens. The driver did not stop right away and continued for about a minute before speeding up to close to the 35 mph limit. The car made a wide turn onto Liberty Road, drove outside the marked lanes and passed another vehicle before finally stopping on Ethans Drive in Twinsburg. The driver, a 36 year old Twinsburg woman, told officers she did not want to stop and said she had three drinks after leaving Cleveland Heights. Officers said she had slurred speech and a strong smell of alcohol. She performed poorly on field sobriety tests at the jail and refused a breath test, resulting in a license suspension. She was charged with failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, OVI, driving in marked lanes and having an open container. Officers said an open bottle of tequila was found
